Mélanie was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for accessories label Maison Michel’s A/W 2009 look book. There was a blurb on it in Elle France’s June edition, and a scan of that has been added to the gallery, thanks to party.in.paris at thefashionspot! The original image has also been added to the photoshoots section. You can see the rest of the pieces at Maison Michel’s official website, although there’s only the one image of Mélanie.

While we’re waiting patiently for the Hollywood premiere of Inglourious Basterds and the media that will follow leading up to August 19th/21st, I’ve added screencaptures of a couple recent online interviews to the gallery. The first one is from back in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where Mélanie talks about Inglourious Basterds, and the second one is from July at Canal+’s website where she talks about Jusqu’à toi and her future projects. There’s a nice little feature on Le Figaro’s website about Mélanie which summarizes her career from her discovery up until the present day and then her future projects. No breaking news, but she does talk briefly about her character in La Rafle. I’m rusty with translating and not fluent in the first place but I am hoping in the future after I brush up we’ll be able to bring you (amateur) translations of some of her French press for readers who don’t speak the language. It’s better than nothing, right?

Also, I happened to stumble upon a newly-posted teaser trailer for her next post-Basterds film, Le Concert! It’s only 30 seconds long, but Mélanie-centric, and we finally learn the name of her character: Anne-Marie Jacquet. I’ll add screencaptures to the gallery soon, but in the meantime, here’s the video of it. Enjoy!

After only a slow trickle of glimpses at Mélanie in-character in Inglourious Basterds, I’ve uploaded 22(!) new film stills. Needless to say, check it out! Edit: The originals in the gallery were teeny-tiny, but thanks to Marine they’ve now been replaced with much higher-quality versions.

Finally, a feature on Mélanie in English! This is from Interview Magazine’s website. The photo is from April 2009 but it looks like the article itself is from around May, pre-Cannes.

French actress Mélanie Laurent was hard at work buying knickers for a porno film when Quentin Tarantino called to confirm that she’d landed a part in his spell-check unfriendly World War II extravaganza Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino’s job offer was the cue for Laurent and her costume department to spend the next few minutes dancing ecstatically in the Paris streets, waving G-strings above their heads. In the role that the director carved out for the 23-year-old Laurent, she plays a Jewish girl who, after witnessing her family being massacred by the Nazis, masquerades as a cinema owner in Paris, where she hatches a revenge plan.

Good news! Mélanie was in Berlin today for the German premiere of Inglourious Basterds. She attended a photocall with the cast first, wearing purple and minimal makeup. She was also on the red carpet looking stunning in black. Photos have been added to the gallery.

Quentin had some kind words for Mélanie on the London red carpet as well.

Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere of Inglourious Basterds, he had praise for stars Diane and Melanie Laurent. “In the case of Diane it was really wonderful,” said Quentin. “She had an idea of who she was basing the character on, and I had another idea of another actress, so I showed he that kind of work.” He continued: “So we had fun creating almost a mythology of the character.” And he also hailed Melanie, saying: “Melanie had this in particular connection to her character, so it was just the normal directing of her during the scenes and she’s a wonderful actress.”
