Film and Album News!

Okay! There have been a few new MĂ©lanie interviews/news articles I’ve missed posting while I’ve been busy, and I’m having trouble tracking all of them down again, but in the meantime there are two important bits of information that have surfaced: one, that her dĂ©but full-length album with Damien Rice is officially completed, and two, she’s filming a new movie before “Putain de pluie !” shoots in October.

No news (still) on when the album is due to be released — I’m guessing summer, like she previously stated — but for people wondering about the language of the album, it’s all in French. The new film starts shooting at the end of May in Lyon, and it’s the debut feature by director JĂȘrome Legris. MĂ©lanie plays a killer-for-hire who doubles as a singer in her spare time. Rhone Alpes CinĂ©ma says the title is “Un requie pour un tueur”, but it’s not on any of the major film sites yet, so things might have changed since then. Still, this is exciting news! I was anxious to hear what her next film project would be since she pulled from “La Fille du puisatier.”

While MĂ©lanie’s full-length studio album that she recorded with AaRON and Damien Rice isn’t due out until summer 2010, we’ll get another chance to hear her sing sooner! She has been brought on board to record a song for the soundtrack of the upcoming film “Thelma, Louise, et Chantal,” where she will be joining the soundtrack’s composer Keren Ann as well as Vanessa Paradis. MĂ©lanie’s track is a cover of Marie LaforĂȘt’s “Ivan, Boris, et moi.” The film isn’t due out until March 2010, but the soundtrack is being released in January! Click the photo above to see a couple pictures of MĂ©lanie in the studio recording her song.

Thanks a lot to Magnifique Marion Cotillard for the heads up. Apparently, Melanie among others are recording a new version of the song “Beds are Burning” during the Cannes Film Festival to support the “Global Humanitarian Forum”.

Marion Cotillard, Guillaume Canet, MĂ©lanie Laurent et Vincent PĂ©rez among other stars will be recording a song during the Cannes Film Festival for the “Global Humanitarian Forum” – a foundation presided over by Kofi Annan. The song should help sensitize the public as well as politicians for the protection of our planet. Other celebrities who’ll be lending their voice to the song include Bill Clinton, Clint Eastwood and tennis champion Yannick Noah.

The song will be available as of June 25th to download for free. A representative of the band’s music label “The Hours”, Alexandre Sap, want this to become the most downloaded song in the world.

Also, here is an new Inglorious Basterds film still. Enjoy!
