Hello, all! I have a bit of news regarding Mélanie’s debut full-length feature film as a director: she’s chosen more of her cast! The title is still up on the air, as some sources report it as “Putain de pluie !”, others as having returned to the original title “Les Adoptés”, and others still report the project is untitled.

Mélanie will be co-starring as a young mother alongside actress and friend Marie Denarnaud, as previously reported, but added to the bunch are Clémentine Célarie and Denis Menochet (Perrier LaPadite, “Inglourious Basterds”.) No news on characters’ names or who Clémentine and Denis will be playing, but I’m guessing Clémentine may be playing Mélanie’s mother, the role she was hoping to snag Isabelle Adjani for.

Lastly, a “Beginners” tidbit, thanks to Magdalena: Mélanie’s character is named Anna!

Now for something I’m sure many of us have been waiting for: some news and our first peek at Mélanie’s first English-language American movie, Mike Mills’ “Beginners.” The film is set to have its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 9 – 19. I’m not sure whether Mélanie will be there to attend the premiere or any press events, since the festival overlaps with her filming of “Et soudain, tout le monde me manque”, but I’m hoping she’ll be able to make it at least for a day. This also means we get our first official glimpse of Mélanie in the film! Here you can see her alongside co-star Ewan McGregor. Thank you to the people at ioncinema for the still!

Now that “Le Concert” is in a limited US theatrical run, the English speaking press has taken some time to speak with Mélanie again. I plan on updating the press archive some time soon with new French and English press alike, but in the meantime, check out this new interview. What’s special about it? She mentions she’d like to tour the United States with her debut album! While the album itself isn’t even predicted before 2011, that’s still exciting news for American Mélanie fans — myself included!

Most of us know Mélanie Laurent as one of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, but Laurent had a lengthy resume even before then. But being that they were all foreign films, very few in the US experienced her work. With her new international star status that’s all changing and now we’ve got the chance to see her latest release, the French film The Concert.

Wow! “Un Requiem pour Mister Child” has barely wrapped, and Mélanie has already booked another movie to film. It’s called “Et soudain, tout le monde me manque”, the second film of “Jusqu’à toi” director Jennifer Devoldère. So far, all we know is that Michel Blanc will be playing Mélanie’s father, Eli, and that Mélanie’s character is named Justine. The film will focus on the relationship between Eli and Justine after they receive the news that Suzanne, Eli’s fourth wife, is expecting — leaving Justine no longer the youngest child. It starts filming at the end of July through mid-September.

A bit more info on Mélanie’s new film! As predicted, that wasn’t the final title: news sites are now reporting it as “Un Requiem pour Mister Child.” Tchéky Karyo plays her boss, and Christoper Stills plays the baritone singer she’s been contracted to kill. Read a bit more below in French! The site linked below is also reporting Mélanie’s character’s name as “Lucrèce.”

Okay! There have been a few new Mélanie interviews/news articles I’ve missed posting while I’ve been busy, and I’m having trouble tracking all of them down again, but in the meantime there are two important bits of information that have surfaced: one, that her début full-length album with Damien Rice is officially completed, and two, she’s filming a new movie before “Putain de pluie !” shoots in October.

No news (still) on when the album is due to be released — I’m guessing summer, like she previously stated — but for people wondering about the language of the album, it’s all in French. The new film starts shooting at the end of May in Lyon, and it’s the debut feature by director Jêrome Legris. Mélanie plays a killer-for-hire who doubles as a singer in her spare time. Rhone Alpes Cinéma says the title is “Un requie pour un tueur”, but it’s not on any of the major film sites yet, so things might have changed since then. Still, this is exciting news! I was anxious to hear what her next film project would be since she pulled from “La Fille du puisatier.”

No big surprise here, but Mélanie has yet another magazine feature/interview promoting Promenade de Santé and La Rafle. It’s in Femme Actuelle and, as always, we would love scans! In the meantime, you can read a bit about the article below.

Mélanie will be making a cameo on French television comedy program “Vous les femmes”, which she also says she’s a big fan of personally. No word on when the actual episode is due to air that I can find, but she shoots her appearance today in Paris. The program is on channel Téva. If anyone could record it for the site when it airs or pass on a link where you can view it online, we’d appreciate it a lot!
