Quentin had some kind words for Mélanie on the London red carpet as well.

Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere of Inglourious Basterds, he had praise for stars Diane and Melanie Laurent. “In the case of Diane it was really wonderful,” said Quentin. “She had an idea of who she was basing the character on, and I had another idea of another actress, so I showed he that kind of work.” He continued: “So we had fun creating almost a mythology of the character.” And he also hailed Melanie, saying: “Melanie had this in particular connection to her character, so it was just the normal directing of her during the scenes and she’s a wonderful actress.”

Sad day! Mélanie was not at the Inglourious Basterds London premiere today. Presumably she’s still in Budapest shooting La Rafle, as reported here, but I’m sure that even if she doesn’t hit any of the other international premieres she’ll be at the Hollywood one. I do, however, have some other small gallery updates to tide us over. First is our first glimpse at Mélanie in Le Concert, where she plays an as-of-yet unnamed character who is the world’s best violinist. The quality is really poor, but hopefully as the November release date nears we’ll see some high-quality stills. According to WWD, she wears a white Elie Saab gown during the final scene of the movie — it looks like this must be the dress.

Time for another quick round-up of Inglourious Basterds material! I’ve made video captures of Mélanie’s appearances in the teaser trailer, American trailer, international trailer, and a film extract and added them to the gallery. In all clips released so far, she’s featured all too briefly for a character that’s the focus of a third of the film — I guess we’ll have to wait til it’s officially in theaters to see any more. Also, there are some nice pictures of Mélanie featured on the film’s official website, alongside quotes of Shosanna’s dialogue. I’m Lindsey and I’ll be your newest webmiss. Thanks to Mélanie’s media frenzy, I also have a huge update! First, the much-anticipated Inglourious Basterds has a feature in Heeb Magazine. Mélanie is on the cover styled in a “we can do it!” / Rosie the Riveter throwback. The cover can be found in the gallery and the article here, on the magazine’s website, but avoid reading if you’re trying to avoid film spoilers, as quite a lot of the plot is revealed. “It’s really about the power of movies,” says Mélanie Laurent, the film’s 26-year-old star. Relying on broken English she learned less than a year ago, the actress parses each word as if Quentin Tarantino is standing over her shoulder with a French-to- English dictionary. She pauses and reflects for a moment before saying, “The cinema is a way of taking back power.” Laurent plays Shosanna Dreyfus, a character whose very name seems to be a playful reference to Jewish history—her French last name belonging to Alfred Dreyfus, the most polarizing Jewish figure in the history of France.

In addition, Mélanie was featured in the June edition of magazine Libération Next. In other film news, new media has been released for two of Mélanie’s other upcoming films, L’Amour caché (August 5th) and the newly re-christened Jusqu’à toi (July 29th). The international title for Jusqu’à toi has also been changed from Shoe at your Foot to Every Jack Has a Jill. You can watch all the videos in their original form at Allocine. The Jusqu’à toi videos are worth checking out in particular — the movie looks adorable, and it’s exciting to finally see Mélanie in a comedic role.

Thanks a lot to Magnifique Marion Cotillard for the heads up. Apparently, Melanie among others are recording a new version of the song “Beds are Burning” during the Cannes Film Festival to support the “Global Humanitarian Forum”.

Marion Cotillard, Guillaume Canet, Mélanie Laurent et Vincent Pérez among other stars will be recording a song during the Cannes Film Festival for the “Global Humanitarian Forum” – a foundation presided over by Kofi Annan. The song should help sensitize the public as well as politicians for the protection of our planet. Other celebrities who’ll be lending their voice to the song include Bill Clinton, Clint Eastwood and tennis champion Yannick Noah.

The song will be available as of June 25th to download for free. A representative of the band’s music label “The Hours”, Alexandre Sap, want this to become the most downloaded song in the world.
