I’ve added a few photos of Mélanie leaving Nice airport yesterday to the gallery. I am not usually a fan of candids because of their invasive nature, but it’s rare to come across them for Mélanie and being spotted out and about at Cannes isn’t the same as distance shots while she’s out shopping for groceries or something similar. I really like her outfit — take a look!

A video interview was posted by Leberry.fr about a month ago with Mélanie responding to criticism that’s become harsher and harsher, particularly by keyboard warriors — it seems like after her album was released, she became one of the least popular actresses in France. I’ve added a few captures to the gallery, but it’s the interview itself that’s more interesting. Take a look!

There’s a brief bit on Mélanie’s role in the opening ceremony in the blog hosted on the Boston Globe’s website covering Cannes. It’s great to hear she was such a success!

Mélanie Laurent, the vengeful Shosanna of “Inglourious Basterds,” emceed the opening ceremonies, and it must be said: I love her. She came to the stage in a smoky dress whose modest volume never contradicted her physical slightness and began to rhapsodize about the movies and the jury. After a few minutes of whispers and moans, it was obvious she didn’t plan to host the event. She intended to perform it, which, to rousing applause, she did. To her credit, she dispensed with stage patter, although it would have been for something to ask Banderas how he and Salma Hayek felt today doing seaside “Puss in Boots” publicity near a two-story pair of boots.

It’s begun! Mélanie hosted the Opening Ceremony and Opening Dinner of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, looking radiant in vintage Christian Dior with a Veronica Lake-esque hair style. The festival goes through May 22nd and this certainly won’t be the last we see of her — I’m looking forward to seeing what else she wears! I don’t think I’d be alone in saying this is among the best of the red carpet looks she’s worn throughout the years, if not #1.

Hello, all! Just a few last-minute additions to previous events Mélanie has attended in 2011 to squeeze in before the deluge of Cannes material. I’ve added new pictures from the Maxine Simoens Haute Couture show and the Sonia Rykiel Ready-to-Wear show, plus a new event, the Rika Magazine and Maison Michel joint launch party that also took place during PFW. Mélanie can be seen alongside Laetitia Crahay, whose Maison Michel designs she modeled for their A/W 2009 campaign. Enjoy! There are over double the photos for all the events, so definitely worth checking out, as there are plenty of quality snaps in there.
