richard Says:
can anyone do a translation or just tell me the main things shes talking about? thanks :)
Miriam Says:
Wonderful! I love watching her in interviews, though like Richard, I’m curious about some of the things she’s discussing, particularly with IB and hearing the mention of Daniel Brühl.
Lindsey Says:
I wasn’t listening closely enough to give a full summary (plus I’m not fluent) but all she said about Daniel is that one of her casting sessions for Basterds was with him.
Lindsey Says:
OK, I watched again and this is what I could gather (French speakers feel free to correct what I’m sure I misunderstood!):
- She had small roles until Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas which was the first time she was trusted to carry a film with a starring role and after the film’s success she started receiving a lot of scripts with real roles.
- The French actresses up for roles in Basterds received their scripts and Tarantino came to Paris to meet with them. Her first casting was with Tarantino himself, then against Daniel Brühl, and finally a dinner with Tarantino.
- She did Jusqu’à toi because it was a good and intelligent movie, well-filmed and in the style of Anglophone romantic comedies, because the French aren’t the best at the genre. She’s very sensitive(?) to and has an eye for young talent, which I assume is referring to Jennifer Devoldère the director.
- She talks a bit about recording with Damien Rice but I couldn’t pick up on much. Something about wanting to surprise and outperform herself, she’s instinctive and doesn’t like repeating herself, which is why she never did theater. She thought it would drive her crazy but things are going well with her upcoming play, it soothes her and she surprised herself.
- She’s very creative, likes to invent and a day doesn’t go by where she doesn’t write something. She’s happy at this point in her life and everything inspires her. Her songs inspire her plays inspire her screenplay, etc..all of her creative endeavors go together.
Whew ;)
richard Says:
well thank you very much for that :D
Lindsey Says:
You’re welcome!
Miriam Says:
Thank you for that! I was already familiar with her audition with Daniel (he even told Quentin she was Shosanna), but I wanted to be certain that I wasn’t missing any new information.
Thank you so much for translating the rest of the interview, I especially love hearing about her other creative endeavors!
Marine Says:
No problem Lindsey, you totally understood what she said ! ;) She’s very cute (as usual) and sometimes very funny in this video, and I love her clothes !
By the way, there is a new public appearance of her ! And Good news, there was Ludivine at this party :D I hope we’ll have photos of Mélanie and Ludivine together :)
